In honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought I post something that’s really all about love… engagement sessions! Maybe it’s because of the holiday, but February has been chalk full of engagement sessions for us.
When Andrew and I got married (over eight years ago!) and before I was photographing weddings professionally, I don’t remember engagement sessions being a thing. If they were a thing, we definitely didn’t know about them, but I so wish we had!
I almost always insist that my wedding clients do an engagement session with me, even if they have already done one with another photographer. And 100 percent of the time, they are absolutely glad they did. While it might seem like the only real purpose of an engagement session is to get pretty photos of you and your fiancé, there is SO much more to them. In fact, they may be my secret ingredient.
Engagement sessions are the best way for me to get to know my clients, for my clients to get familiar with my style of shooting and posing and, most importantly, “practice” for the big day. The result… relaxed, natural photographs that I aim for on their wedding day; especially, when it’s time to take portraits of the bride and groom. Quite often, time is a bit crunched at that point in the day and the practice of doing an engagement session can make the difference in getting great shots quickly.
As much as my brides have practiced posing, it’s unlikely that her groom hasn’t joined in on the fun. I think everyone deserves to have beautiful photographs of themselves, especially on their wedding day, and engagement sessions are just the thing to ensure that happens. :)
Happy Valentine’s Day!
