Beth + Steve Engaged!

Beth and Steve’s wedding was one of the first I booked for this year.  But, because they are both in Michigan doing their medical residencies, there was a good chance I wouldn’t have a chance to meet them until their wedding in September.  So, I was thrilled when Beth emailed me that they were coming to LA to visit family and wanted to meet up.  I suggested an engagement session because, for me, there’s no better way for me to get to know my wedding couples.

They said they were interested in an urban setting in and around Pasadena and that they were up for just about anything.  So I thought of this open, vacant parking lot that I drive by at least once a week, always thinking to myself that it had excellent potential for a photo location.  It was perfect.  I loved the San Gabriel Mountains so prominent in the background and the light was gorgeous (and so were they)!  After that, we snuck in a few shots in my favorite Old Pasadena alley way and up on the roof of the nearby parking garage.

Anna & Chris Engaged!

Boy, have I been busy!  Over the past week, I have shot three back-to-back engagement sessions with three wonderful couples.  They were all so awesome and in love but each in their own unique way.  My new friends Anna and Chris were so sweet and sincere.  They are also seriously smart and successful–Chris is a scientist and Anna an architect.   To marry the two (no pun intended), I thought starting out their engagement session on the Cal Tech campus would be fitting. And, they happily trekked all the way from Santa Monica to Pasadena for our session.  We also hit up Eaton Canyon for a little late afternoon light as they quite often hike together.

You’ll also be seeing them again here on the blog after I photograph their wedding later this year.

Enjoy!

Michelle & Steve Engaged!

A couple of months ago I met Michelle and Steve at my favorite local coffee spot to discuss photography for their August wedding here in Pasadena.  I loved hearing about how they met in college and how sentimental they were about  all the little details of their courtship.  It  reminded me so much of how I met my sweetie Andrew more than 10 years ago.  I loved their idea of shooting their engagement session back where it all began–on the Cal State LA campus.  I thought it had the potential of having many of the qualities I try to bring to into my photography–unique, fun, modern and meaningful.  And, I was right!

Michelle and Steve were troupers.  The campus was B-U-S-Y with students prepping for finals, which is never easy unless you’re a professional model. We hit up the library, the stairs to the parking lot they used to walk down together at the end of the day and any and all cool spots that caught my eye.

I had a hard time picking just a few favorite photos so this post is a little bigger than most.  I’d love to know which photo(s) you like from the set.  Thanks!

(Michelle and Steve – It was so nice getting to know you both.  I’m so thrilled to be a part of your wedding later this summer!)

Emily (mom) - I can’t stop looking at these pictures…they are so amazing I get a lump in my throat when I glance at the pictures on my desk.

Steve and Michelle look as beautiful in pictures as they do in person.

It’s amazing to see my daughter grow over the years from my one and only little girl to a beautiful woman…

I love the libary photo, the black and white with her eyes closed on Steve’s chest. The kiss on the nose is adorable…the one by herself is sexyyy…in front of the brick building cute…the one color with on steve’s chest is romantic…oh well in the nut shell I love them all…;o)

Thank you so much for such beautiful pictures…

Emily

Kenworthy Family Sneak Peek

A couple weeks ago, I got an email from Brian.  His son Jack was turning two and his parents and sister were flying in to town to celebrate.  He thought it would be a great time  to get some professional photos of the whole family.  I was thrilled that they asked me to help make it happen!  In typical “One Eleven” fashion, we kept the session very relaxed, natural and candid, mostly following little Jack’s lead.   It was clear everyone was quite smitten with Jack and rightfully so… I was too!

Here are some of my favorites from our session.

(Happy Birthday Jack!)

The Martins – Old Pasadena Photography Mini Session

Here are a few of my favorite photos from another mini session I did with my friend Melanie and her big kids Miranda and Sean.  As with the other mini session I did this Spring, these were shot in and around Old Pasadena.  As much as I use Old Pasadena for photo sessions, we still managed to discover a few more hidden spots that were great.  Enjoy!
